Full free transfer service.

Plate Master offers a full and free transfer service. By this, we mean we will handle the entire registration number transfer procedure and will promptly advise you as to when you can attach the actual number plates to your vehicle.

If you require this service, you will need to post us the following documents after your have made your purchase: the recipient vehicle’s registration document V5C (logbook), MOT certificate (if applicable) and the tax disk expiry date (we do not need your actual tax disk).

We will have these documents amended accordingly and typically within 7 to 10 days you will receive a new tax disc (and MOT certificate if applicable) bearing the new registration number. At such a time you can attach the plastic number plates to your vehicle. Later, a replacement registration document will follow direct from the DVLA.

Alternatively, we can supply your personalised registration on a DVLA certificate so that you can assign it when you are ready by taking or posting your documents to your local DVLA office.

R4 DTO can only be assigned to a 'R'- prefix reg or newer vehicle (registered on or after 1st August 1997) or, if you do not have a vehicle, you can have it supplied on a DVLA certificate and assign it to a vehicle when you are ready.

The nominee name is the name of the registered keeper as stated on the V5C Registration document (log book) of the vehicle R4 DTO is being assigned to. Please specify this as it appears on the V5C including any title.

Information About Your Registration

The law on assigning number plates: You cannot make a vehicle appear younger by assigning to it a registration corresponding to a later year. Be sure you can assign before you buy. It is important to check that you can legally assign this registration mark to your vehicle. The year of registration of your vehicle will determine this. If for example, your vehicle is an S prefix, you cannot assign a T prefix registration. You can however assign an A through to an S prefix registration.

Similarly, new style registrations cannot be used to make your vehicle appear younger. For example an "05" registration mark cannot be transferred onto a vehicle registered in September 2002 i.e. a "52" plate. Alternatively, the registration mark can be purchased on a certificate of entitlement for a future assignment.
