DVLA information and main telephone numbers
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is the UK Government organisation responsible for maintaining databases of drivers and of vehicles in the UK. Primarily, they issue driving licences and direct the collection of vehicle excise duty (road tax). They are also the original issuers of vehicle registrations and are responsible for defining the regulations for the use of private number plates.
The DVLA headquarters are based in Swansea. It was formally known as the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre (DVLC). A network of offices around the UK provides the most common services. The equivalent in Northern Ireland is the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Northern Ireland (DVLNI).
