The 18 series of registrations became available for vehicles in November 2017. These number plates can be displayed on vehicles first registered on (or after), 1st March 2018, although you don't actually need to be in possession of a suitable vehicle to own an 18 registration plate.

You can purchase an 18 registration and keep it on certificate indefinitely, assigning it to a suitable vehicle in the future, or simply retain it on certificate as an investment.
