Enter The Dragons - Theo Paphitis

Theo Paphitis has a substantial reputation for transforming businesses from looming failure into stable and highly profitable entities. He is well known for his alliance with several chain stores, many of which he turned around. In fact, he has a capacity for resurrecting failing businesses, returning them to strength. But perhaps he is best known for his role as one of the self-established millionaires in Dragons' Den.

In the early days Paphitis had a telephone enterprise, NAG Telecom, which was situated in several outlets of the failing business Ryman's. Consequently, Paphitis had a level of knowledge of this industry and bought out Ryman in 1995, turning it right round. The business expanded further as the amalgamation with competitors and subsequent re-branding established dominance. More recently, he sold both lingerie chains La Senza and Contessa to Lion Capital after turning them around too, with his master stroke. In addition, Theo is a former Chairman of the football club Millwall FC.

Theo lives with his wife in Surrey and as is expected of highly successful businessmen, he has a nice house and collection of expensive cars with cherished number plates. In fact, he has been collecting number plates for nearly twenty years. Theo clearly likes to celebrate his triumphant business endeavours as he has furnished one of his cars with RYM 4N. Similarly, LA53 NZA, is assigned to his daughter's car, who has also modelled for La Senza.

In addition, Theo enjoys brandishing his family cars with name number plates. His wife is the owner of DEB 131E and he has T1 HEO on his own car. He advocates nice cars should be touched with decent number plates, believing that standard issue registration plates spoil any nice car. He feels adding a quality plate enhances the appearance. It may come as a surprise, but Theo is not interested in selling his registrations. He collects them and spends time searching for ones that have a strong appeal to him.

Like most of the other Dragons, Theo Paphitis's beginnings were modest. As poor immigrants, his family moved from Cyprus to England and he took whatever work he could find. He was further disadvantaged by undiagnosed dyslexia but his willpower and common sense helped him overcome this. His began his career as a tea boy ay Lloyds of London and it was his knowledge that he gained while progressing through increasingly demanding jobs the endowed him with the understanding he needed to pursue his ambitions.
